Temple University Goes to Big East: What this means for you

At the beginning of the 2012 spring semester Temple University announced its return to the Big East Conference. (Temple used to be in the Big East a decade ago, but couldn’t really hang wit the competition.) Starting next year for football, Temple will join the Big East schedule and all other sports will follow in the 2013 seasons. What this means for you, whether you are a student, alumni, or parent of one is that the Temple football schedule just got a hell of a lot harder. If you don’t know what other teams are in the Big East here is a list

West Virginia

Cincinnati

Louisville

Rutgers

Pittsburgh

Connecticut

University of South Florida

Syracuse

With these high profile schools joining our schedule it will make for much more exciting football games. The big game of the year for fans will no longer be the Mayor’s Cup against Villanova or whenever Penn State comes to town. Fans want to see Temple beat big teams, nobody really cares that we beat Kent State or Buffalo 34-0, BFD. But if that win was over West Virginia at home it would be HUGE!

Last season West Virginia and Cincinnati both finished their seasons 10-3 and both teams including Louisville went 5-2 within the conference. Last season Temple finished the year 9-4 with our only losses to Penn State, Toledo, Bowling Green, and Ohio University. Personally this Temple Owl feels that the football program has what it takes to make its mark in the Big East Conference and I cant wait to march all over Pittsburgh at the Linc!
